The solution:
READY’s brand and communications materials went on to receive international award recognition, including the prestigious American Graphic Design Awards. More than 200 students participated in the competition to creatively present their ideas on the need for school reform, through works of art, poetry, essays, videos and performances. Their works were displayed and performed at the special event, which was well attended by students, school officials, community leaders and the media. In addition, close to 100 parents joined together in kitchens throughout Providence, and more than 250 people participated in the Study Circles all raising the same three main concerns: quality instruction, school culture and what and how kids are learning. Along the way, Im-aj brought their concerns to the public through securing the publication of several articles, editorials, and features in statewide publications, as well as news stories on the major television network affiliates. Their views as well as the redesign strategies the school department had implemented that address their concerns were published by Im-aj in a well-written and designed status report to the community. The report was announced at a major press conference and distributed to every family with a child in a Providence high school as well as community, political and business leaders.
